WHY TANTRA?
Tantra is the natural evolution of yoga. It is an integral system that consists of 5 Yoga systems, as taught by Lord Shiva to Parvati, the origin of yoga.
Tan means expansion, tra means freedom. Tantra is the art to be free from all physical, mental and spiritual bondage through the expansion of energy.
Unlike many other systems of yoga, Tantra takes a liberal approach, embracing life in all its facets and using life as our ultimate teacher. Through acceptance of all that is, we find ourselves gradually liberated from limitations and conditioning, which allows us to step fully into our personal power and the joy of being fully alive.
Tantra Yoga emphasizes the development of power latent in the chakras in a systematic manner to heal and balance all aspects of the self — including the physical, emotional, vital, mental and spiritual bodies. This eventually leads to supreme consciousness, the ultimate aim of human life.
WHAT MAKES OUR TRAINING SPECIAL?
Tantra itself is a special, however misunderstood science. It is an ancient system of activating the dormant potential inside each and every one of us. This training is not just to make you a good yoga teacher, but gives you what you require to blossom fully into who you are meant to become in this lifetime.
What makes our training special is you. Each of you are unique and when we come together for this higher purpose, a positive energy is created that will shape our course in its own beautiful expression. Sheltered in the ashram in the hills of Nepal, you will find yourself in an expansive environment that encourages you to find your own inner yogi or yogini.
Moving beyond the physical aspect of yoga, however important, we place utmost importance on transmitting authentic yoga in all its fullness and glory, so that you may develop your own inner capacity of truly living in yoga. It is upon this foundation of spiritual strength and wisdom that a genuine yoga teacher may emerge. We aim to provide you with the foundational building blocks needed to teach with confidence and ease as soon as you graduate.
OUR LINEAGE
The teachings of our ashram are the combination of Tantra Yoga as taught by Swami Nirajananda, successor of Swami Satyananda of Bihar School of Yoga and Swami Shivalingam, also a student of Swami Satyananda, who taught the ancient hidden secrets of Nepalese Tantra to his disciple Yogi Prakash, or Guruji, as he is known, the founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram.
Nepal is the land of Tantra, where Shiva himself taught this science to his other half, Parvati. It has been preserved in its pure form from Guru to disciple ever since. It is our intention to transmit this wealth of knowledge, through adapted practices and providing a good structural means for conducive learning and integration.

ASHRAM BENEFITS
At the ashram, we teach to promote experiential learning, and while you will receive comprehensive teaching in the theoretical and philosophical aspects of yoga, we feel that it is imperative for you to experience yoga in order to teach and take your own practice to the next level. Yoga is much more than just the practice of Asana; it is a lifestyle. At Shanti Yoga Ashram, we prepare students to live Yoga, not just do Yoga.
Our daily activities provide a balanced mix of all the aspects a great yogi embodies: disciplined daily practice, knowledge, devotion, action or work, healthy food, rest, nature, service and community. As you fully immerse yourself, you will find an openness to the process of deep learning and self evolution. We’re confident that the experience will not only prepare you to teach yoga, but give you all the tools you need to maintain a harmonious balance in your daily life.

OUR TEACHERS
For our teachers, yoga is the essential core of their lives, having dedicated themselves to serve for the purpose of awakening humanity to higher states of consciousness. Another meaning of the word Tantra is to weave or to integrate; by infusing their lives with yoga it has led them to become experts as there is no longer separation between subject and object. Their purpose is to act as your guides so that you may awaken the Guru within your own self and hence bring our your greatest potential.

YOGI PRAKASH, the founder and chairman of Shanti Yoga Ashram, began to study yoga at the age of 12 and has continued ever since with much dedication. In his young adulthood he went to India, where he completed a teacher training course at Bihar School of Yoga. This is where he got initiated by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati. Returning to Nepal, he deepened his knowledge by studying Kundalini and Tantra yoga under the guidance of Swami Shivalingam for the next twelve years. This expanded his yogic knowledge even further.
Since childhood, Yogi Prakash had a vision to open a school to teach spiritual sciences, resulting in the establishment of Shanti Yoga Ashram in 2001. Gaining a strong reputation as a yoga teacher, he was selected out of 100 candidates to teach yoga in Bangkok, Thailand for a year.
He then received an opportunity to teach in China, this time conducting yoga teacher training courses and drafting his own book; Tantra Yoga The Classical Yoga. In the last few years, Yogi Prakash has been teaching throughout Europe, the U.S. and India; spreading the light of Tantra Yoga from the Himalayas around the world.
Yogi Prakash leads workshops and teacher training courses at Shanti Yoga Ashram; he gives personal attention and care to every student making everyone feel at home. His magnanimous nature and great capacity to teach allows him to transmit the spiritual essence of Tantra Yoga to his students with joy and love.

COURSE CURRICULUM
TANTRA'S FIVE YOGA SYSTEM
Tantra yoga starts with the gross level, the body, and gradually transitions to the most subtle level, consciousness. This teaching system offers the evolutionary process from Hatha yoga, meditation through the body, to Ashtanga yoga, meditation through the mind, to Mantra yoga, meditation through sound vibrations, to Kundalini yoga, meditation through the chakras, and ultimately to Shiva-Shakti yoga, meditation through the internal masculine and feminine energies.
Hatha Yoga – The Foundation of Tantra. Classical Hatha Yoga is aiming to balance our solar and lunar energies. When the body is balanced, the energy can flow properly, resulting in good health.
Shatkarma – The first step in Hatha Yoga. Shatkarma is the internal yogic cleansing, to prepare our bodies and minds for practice. It is an essential part of Hatha Yoga, so prana can flow through clear channels without toxins.
Asana – Hatha Yoga Asanas, Sun Salutations with deeper esoteric meaning while incorporating chakra awareness. You will learn how to incorporate breathe, awareness and movement along with enjoyment.
Pranayama – Sensitizing, Vitalizing, Balancing and Tranquilizing. You will learn more than techniques but gain the ability to use your breathe to direct your own pranic flow.
Mudra – Create a flow of prana through different gestures, essential element of tantra yoga.
Bhanda – Learn to lock and release different parts of the body to direct the energy as needed.
Astanga Yoga (Raja Yoga) – 8 Limbs. There are practices in each of these limbs that help one evolve to the next.
Yama and Niyama – Development of personal character by imbibing certain lifestyle regulations for upliftment.
Bhakti Yoga and Karma Yoga are included here.
Bhakti Yoga (Yoga of Devotion) – Embodying Divine Qualities.
Karma Yoga (Yoga of Selfless Service) – Doing something good for humanity that reaches beyond your own borders.
Asana – Become still and comfortable in your own skin, so that the cosmic life-force may flow through you.
Pranayama – Learn to expand the space between the breaths to come fully into present moment awareness, preliminary stages of meditation.
Pratyahara – Can you fully relax and go within? Learn to withdraw your senses and find your true home, inside of you.
Yoga Nidra and other techniques will be practiced regularly
Dharana – Concentration – Esoteric Practices to create the strength and focus necessary for meditation
Dhyana – Meditation will occur naturally with the preparatory practices.
Samadhi – Blissful state of Enlightenment – A glimpse will be possible as the soul begins to shine out and feel real peace.
Mantra Yoga – Once the body and mind are balanced we are ready to invoke the divine energy through sound vibration, the most subtle of all manifestations.
AUM Chanting – There are many ways to chant Om to awaken different energy centers. Om can be chanted to either elevate or ground the energy.
Kirtan – Chanting together to invite Cosmic Energies and express our devotion to the divine.
Mantra Initiation – You will receive a mantra to use for japa and to connect to the yoga lineage.
Yantra, Mantra and Tantra – Visualization and Manifestation.
Kundalini Yoga – The yoga of awakening the sleeping potential of the human being, through purifying each chakra, using a variety of tantric methods. This is an integral practice that will evolve throughout the course. We will also spend time to understand and work with each chakra individually.
Shiva Shakti Yoga – Requiring the use of all the yoga systems learned previously; it is our goal to make you a master of your own body, mind and energy systems. You will learn how to become an embodiment of divinity and to balance your own internal masculine and feminine energies.
Ayurveda – the art of living in harmony with yourself and the natural world.
Jnana Yoga - the yoga of knowledge and the path of self realization.
Energetic Principles - discovering our intrinsic connection as a microcosmos in the macrocosmos. .

"This was my second visit to Shanti Yoga Ashram. My previous stay was for a 500 hour Teacher Training that lasted 2 months. This year was for the 4th World Yoga Festival. I feel very blessed to have discovered this ashram, as it is like home away from home, from the warmth and hospitality of Yogi Prakash and the entire Dhungana family to the deep and genuine yogic teachings, I cannot imagine a better setting! There have been many new additions and upgrades on the property and it is still growing. I am already planning my return trip for next year!"

"My time on the Classical Tantra Yoga Course (200 hours) was a life-changing experience. For me, this was my first ever venture into the sphere of yoga and although there was a vast quantity to assimilate and adjust to, I was supported and found the course to be balanced and meaningful with a strong sense of community.
The teachings really gave a good grounding in the meanings of being, life, and how we find ourselves in this world. Guruji has an amazing, humbling energy and speaks from the heart. He is a profound man and shares many of his beautiful insights into his teachings. Guruji and Rama helped create a lovely atmosphere.
Gopika provided a breadth of understanding in Ayurveda and contributed to our spiritual teaching in her classes, yoga practices, and kirtan.
I would recommend this course to anyone with an open heart and open mind, of all ability, knowledge, and insight into yoga and spirituality. Truly, a wonderful experience in a divine place with astute teachers."

"I can testify that after my visit to the ashram almost two years ago I am continuing to feel the unfolding of the potent energy that is transmitted there. When I first came to the ashram I was suffering from numerous health issues both physical and psychological. After one month of training here I felt better than I had ever felt in my entire life. In my first class with Guruji I was freed from the physical pain that had hindered my meditation practice. With Gopika’s guidance and teachings on Ayurveda I learned how to truly live a yogic lifestyle, incorporating these teachings into the modern western lifestyle I am living now. What a gift! I am full of gratitude for everyone who has helped in bringing the eastern wisdom to the western world. We are so very in need of this science at this time! Thank you to the whole ashram family. 🙏 Hari om"
