Nepal is a land of vast spiritual wealth that has been preserved from ancient ties in the form of festivals. They are symbolic displays of eternal truths that have as much significance today as they did in the past.
Navarati – The Nine Nights of the Goddess holds great importance for yogis and Nepalese people alike.
At Shanti Yoga Ashram we do a special sadhana during this time (it falls sometime around Oct). Each day has a different manifestation of Durga associated with it and a corresponding chakra. We do yoga practices to awaken and activate that chakra in the morning. In the evening we chant the mantra associated with that form of Durga devi. It is a powerful time to activate these energies. The result is strengthened and increased spiritual energy. We welcome guests who would like to perform this Durga sadhana. This festival culminates on the tenth day called Dasai, when we honor the feminine by worshiping and feeding 9 young girls and then recieve tika (blessings) from our elders.
