About the Journey
This festival will encompass the most consecrated sites throughout the beautiful Kathmandu Valley and the teachings from yoga masters from a wealth of traditions and lineages; providing a divine opportunity to share, learn and practice from those most adept in the art of yoga. It promises to be a truly unique event drawing together cultures, traditions and teachings from across the world. It is an opportunity to evolve spiritually by going deep into the essence of yoga in the land in which yoga itself was born.
We will come together at Shanti Yoga Ashram for the first day of the festival. This spiritual journey will continue in Kathmandu, where we will spend two days in the enchanting capital city of Nepal. Our festival corresponds with Shiva Ratri – Shiva’s appearance day, in which we will come together to honor Lord Shiva, the first Guru of Yoga by celebrating yoga’s depth and diversity. We will continue in this spirit by visiting the Pashupatinath Temple, considered to be the most powerful and important Shiva temple in existence, lying on the banks of the Bagmati River. We will also visit the Boudhanath Stupa, a symbolic Buddhist site as well as being the largest stupa in Nepal, and the Swayambhunath Stupa, the oldest Buddhist shrine in Kathmandu.
Inside of Kathmandu Valley we will visit Bhaktapur, an ancient Tantric city known for its amazing architecture and spiritual energy. It is home to many temples of cultural significance. There is a large square for our yoga program.
Our pilgrimage will then bring us to Pokhara, which not only offers the holy sites of the Peace Pagoda and the Barahi Durga Temple, but breathtaking views of the Annapurna range and Lake Phewa. It is an ideal place for yoga and meditation surrounded by nature’s beauty.
Finally, our journey will bring us to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. This important pilgrimage location offers the Ashoka Pillar erected in the Lumbini Garden, marking the spot where Prince Siddharta Gautam was born, and the Mayadevi Temple, dedicted to Lord Buddha’s mother, Queen Maya Devi. On the way back to Kathmandu we will spend one night at Dev Ghat, the sacred convergence of two rivers, the place where Sita, Rama and Laskshman departed from this world, the birthplace of Veda Vyas, the compiler of the the Vedas. There are many ashrams there and it is the home of many spiritual practitioners to this day, so it is highly charged with spiritual energy.
